Wolf Companions

Wolf Companions

A friendly note about taming wolves, health, sitting behavior, and wolf armor.

How to Tame

  • Use bones on a wolf until hearts appear. It may take several bones, so bring more than one.
  • Wolves are commonly found in forests, taiga areas, and other wooded places, depending on the world.
  • Bring extra bones if you want more than one companion, and clear nearby danger before taming.
  • Once tamed, the collar shows it belongs to you. You can dye the collar to tell wolves apart.

Health and Healing

  • The tail angle shows how healthy the wolf is. A lower tail means it needs healing.
  • Feed meat to heal it. Keep a small stack ready when exploring caves, villages, or forests.
  • Watch its health during fights and long trips. Wolves can help, but they can also run into danger quickly.
  • Avoid lava, cactus, deep drops, and sweeping attacks near your wolf. Environmental damage is often more dangerous than ordinary mobs.

Following and Sitting

  • A wolf that is not sitting follows the player and may teleport closer when you move far away.
  • Interact to make it sit and wait in place. This is the safest setting when building, mining, or sorting storage.
  • Set wolves to sit if you want them to stay at your base, at an entrance, or near a bed.
  • Before entering the Nether, deep caves, or risky fights, decide whether the wolf should come with you or wait safely at home.

Wolf Armor

  • Craft wolf armor with Armadillo Scutes.
  • Armor helps protect your wolf from damage, which makes exploration and fights less risky.
  • Dye it to make your companion feel personal or to tell several wolves apart.
  • Armor helps, but it is not a reason to ignore danger. Healing food and sitting commands still matter.
Wolves are companions, not disposable guards. Tame, heal, sit, armor, and route choice all matter if you want them to stay with you.
